spoobs once bubbled...
We will be in Roataon for a day on a cruise. We were considering going to BIBR for the day for snorkeling. It seems that the snorkeling is pretty good from the shore or boat. They have a package where they pick you up at the dock and provide beach chairs, lunch. Would this be a good choice for a day od snorkeling? Any other suggestions for good snorkeling for the day? Thanks
They have a snorkel trail (marked by buoys) and it is very close to their dock. It follows a shallow part of the reef in front of the BIBR. An easy swim, that is fun to do.

JeffG, Thanks. Is there anywhere else we should look to go snorkeling for a day?
Coberry7, We go in December. Have a great trip. Could you post a report after you return?
Thanks.

I visited BIBR in July . . .I have been plagued with something ever since. Might be no seeum bites. Dive Shop owner says we were bitten by Sea Lice. We did not go out at dusk or dawn...we wore insect repellent . . .we followed the rules. Others on this trip were stricken as well.
I was not impressed with the food, accomodations or service. The Reef is wonderful. Forget Spooky Channel. . .I'd call it murky channel. There is no other shore diving.(This ain't Bonaire) Hope you like taco flavored everything. Food sucks!

Wasn't gonna get carried away as we are not hard to please...not at all. Perhaps someone else can tell you how to avoid the systemic reaction I had to whatever bit me. I've had three months of hell.

Good Luck

I visited BIBR in March as I was rather disappointed. The accomodations were OK, but the handling of the reservations was extremely poor. The food was faily boring and not all that good - they have to bring it down from the main house, so it is usually not very hot. Two dive boats broke down during the week; luckily, the one I was one did so near the dock. The owners here are great, but, the manager there (son-in-law) did not addres any issues that the guests had.

The dive sites visited were good, especially the new wreck, the Odyssey. Spooky Channel is fairly interesting from a drop off dive or a shore dive. I have heard that it is a good night dive as well, but I did not do that.

I hope you have a good trip. :thumb:

It is not expected that either "no see um" (sand flea) or "sea lice" (sea bather's eruption; SBE) envenomation will show significant dermatological or systemic activity for a period of 3 continuous months.

Although you do not say so, I assume that you have tried the customary treatment approaches without substantial benefit. If so, the situation is worrisome.

As you describe no signs or symptoms, it's difficult to hazard any guesses as to what might be the problem, but is there any possibility that you may have contracted leishmaniasis?---->

It would seem that visit to your physician is in order.

Please do let me know what you find out.

Best regards.

We did the beach package on our last cruise while in Roatan, and it was well worth the day. The snorkeling was excellent, we were able to take a good many underwater shots by free diving. The beach area is just off from Anthony Key docks and while there I was jealous of the new divers doing a checkout dive there. I really wished I had my gear too while watching them.

Seaangel,
Thanks for your comments. Did you go out snorkeling from their boats? Where was the best snorkeling and was it a long swim to get there? We have 2 boys, ages 7 and 9, who have snorkeled and can swim fairly well, but I've heard some of the better snorkeling takes a while to get to.
