I was certified (PADI) over 10 years ago... but have done only a few dives in the past 10 years... but found I hadn't forgotten anything or lost any skills. I've dived in Hawaii, Seattle, and Miami. I'm a pretty strong sea kayaker; I'm competent and I don't panic from sticky situations underwater.

I now live in the California Bay Area, and I want to go kelp diving. I'd like to meet a dive buddy who's into sane adventure and wants to introduce a fast-learning newbie to kelp and the Bay Area. I'd expect to do non-kelp dives first to get to know each other's skill level and approach. My goal is to enjoy an alien 3D environment (I'm also a caver and former hang glider pilot) and develop my skills, not to push any edges or set any records.

Is there anyone local who might want to dive with me and work up to kelp diving?

You need to check out my dive club, North Coast Divers.

We don't have dues, meetings or officers. We DO dive each month as a club and much more often through folks we've met in the club.

Our dives are mainly on the Sonoma and Mendocino coast.

We have members ranging from still-wet-behind-the-ears (and everywhere esle) newbies through instructors with years of experience on the North Coast. It's a great way to learn how to dive locally.

Welcome to The North Coast Divers!

Welcome to the ScubaBoard! Didn't take long to find the answer to you request. Kelps diving is an awesome experience like being in an alien environment of green.
