I have a Capitano compressor were the 2nd stage cylinder has got some rust poures after being not used for a while. What are the options to get the cylinder repaired without buying a new one? Honing is not enough.
I've seen that some companies can bore up inner diameter, add Nikasil and then bore it to correct inner diameter. Is Nikasil good for air compressors?
Some companies can also add a cylinder sleeve inside. Better than Nikasil treatment?

I'm not familiar enough with Nikasil to give you a definitive answer.

What I do know is that it's used in some oil free air compressors for cars, e.g. Mahle. However, how this would impact a breathing air compressor I do not know.
As it is a nickel silicone carbide plating, there would be one thing I would be concerned with and that is longevity. Nickel corrodes rather easy and once that starts to corrode, the silicone carbide that does all the work, would be gone as well. As these electroplated layers are very thin, I could see potential long-term issues.

Bauer plasma-nitrides their cylinders to make them last longer. I'm sure they have a reason for using this technique over another (Even if it just may be cost saving...).

On a side-note, I'm astonished that plating and honing a cylinder would be cheaper than buying a new one.

Nikasil repair is around €300 and new cylinder sleeve is around €400-500. New cylinder if I can get one is €800 or even more?
Where is best place to get a new or second hand cylinder in Europe?

Bauer has been very responsive whenever I contacted them directly. They would be my first shot and that would give you a baseline for the price as well.
