The battery to my Mosquito needs changed. I am assuming that there is a watch kit so that you can do it yourself. Where do you get the kit? Or is it better to pay the few bucks to let somebody else do it?

After turning the door (with a quarter) counter clockwise until it stops, lift the dor using a pointed instrument. Use the grooves so you dont dig into the compartment. If you use a jewelers screwdrive you can slide it down the groove and against the door and gently lift it going from one side to the next. As you lift it off yu will notice some residual silicone grease. Gently clean it and make sure you didnt gouge the o-ring. Replace the 2032 baterry. Lube the door with some more silicone. (Not a lot!) Back goes the door with a clockwise turn and thats it!

I'm sure any shop which carries AquaLung/Suunto stuff will have the battery kit. Changing the battery (and cover) is so easy I'm sure the person on the other side of the counter can replace it in little more time than it takes to ask "How would you like to pay for this?". Suunto wants you to replace the back cover at the same time as the battery, so it is probably a good idea. The kit runs something like $10 or $12.

The battery replacement kit comes with a new cover, o-ring, and battery, you should replace all three when you change the battery. I've seen Mosquitos that people have changed just the battery in them and they have flooded because the hooks that latch the cover to the unit were broken with out the owner relising this had happened. If they flood, you may as well through the whole unit out because the water cooks the electronics inside.

Are you sure that the battery compartment is not isolated from the computer electronics? Becuase if it is isolated from the computer, water will only damage the battery itself and nothing else. I am not familiar with the Mosquito, but in Vyper and Favor I am pretty sure (from experience ;) ) that it is well isolated...

In any event, water by itself usually cannot cook anything just like that. To boil an egg, for example, one may need to put the water in a container and use some source of heat ;)

Mmmm... I was told not to change the battery myself so I sent mine back to Sunnto to replace the battery. Supposedly a pressure test is carried to ensure that the mosquito reads correctly after the battery change-out. Is this true?

From Suunto's website: "Batteries can be changed by user to following computers. Cobra, Vytec, Vyper, Gekko, Favor S, and Mosquito. Instructions for changing batteries can be found from the instruction manual of each product. Manuals are downloadable from the Download Center.
"

I wonder, why would they (Suunto) write such a thing if they thoght that you ought to send your computer back to Suunto every time it needs battery replacement... Perhaps you are confused with Uwatec computers?

I believe the battery compartment is isolated from the electronics, that is why it is not really necessary to pressure test it after changing the battery.
