Thanks for the email. While the OC1 does have a user changeable battery we recommend returning the computer to the factory for an annual service. The reason for this recommendation is due to the high cost of a full service and calibration (complete rebuild).
If the battery change is done incorrectly, and the unit floods the repair charge is $260.00. As with all repairs on the OC1 you will receive the same computer (housing) back that was returned. We do not swap OC1 out for pre-serviced (refurbished unit), as it is regarded as a piece of jewelry, and people want their own scratches back. Not somebody else’s.
The cost for a factory annual service is $85.00 retail, and consists of a voltage check to ensure that the computer is using too much power when it is asleep/active/backlight is on/ect.
Service includes the battery kit ($31.95) which we use to change the battery, o-ring, screws, and the battery hatch (if needed). Note that there is no discount for providing the battery kit. We check to ensure the OC1 receives the transmitter link to the correct distance, and that the pressure is accurate (transmitter annual service $35.00). We then check the PDPS to ensure the unit is within calibration & update the firmware (and hardware) if needed. Finally we do 2 chamber dives (in water) to ensure the unit does not flood, and to ensure the depth, times, and alarms work correctly.
We have sold hundreds of OC1 battery kits and rarely receive units back that have flooded. However, a factory annual service is a good value for the service provided and as it mitigate the additional risk of the unit flooding.

http://www.oceanicworldwide.com/us/media/wysiwyg/Support/Oceanic_Returns_Form.pdf. This form will ask you for all the information we need to process the return, and contains our mailing address. Be sure to include the above RA number on the form, and to send the completed form with the shipment. Our current in-house turnaround time is approximately 7 business days, plus shipping time, though expedited processing is available if needed.
If a transmitter is received by itself we charge $35.00, however, when a transmitter is received with a computer we charge only for the battery kit ($22.95).
