My dad has a 35' fishing boat he keeps docked in Huntington Beach CA that me and a friend wants to start diving off of, paying $15 in gas each is better than paying $100+ for a dive boat to take us out. What are some basic things we should keep on board? Besides a SCUBA flag and float anything else? All input is appreciated, thanks.

Jamie

**EDIT**
To clear things up WE ARE NOT CHARTERING just me and a friend taking my dads boat out. A lot of people were responding as if we were going to be chartering or accepting paying customers.

An emergency plan.

With few exceptions, when you pay your $100+ for a dive boat, they will have O2 on board, a Rescue trained DM, a list of emergency contacts, the way to get to the nearest chamber and as already mentioned an alert crew member to keep a lookout while you're down below and be prepared to handle the situation if you surface with an emergency or a long way from the boat.

Oops, I thought that you were taking paying guests.

A couple of HOT!!! chicks.

Make sure also that you have the knowledge, tools and spares to make repairs at sea when (not if) something breaks.

Good tips. Also have everyone sign a waiver to help protect yourself and your 'rents. Your friends are great until someone gets hurt and the medical bills start coming in.

If you start running the boat often, your gonna find out why it costs $100 to go out on a charter.

Have fun and be safe

Pirate flag

That, and a ladder. Tank racks would be advisable.

Large beer cooler.

I want a diveboat to have an engine and the navigation equipment needed to find the site (echo sounder and gps). I also want it to have the safety equipment such as flares, DSC and whatever is appropriate for its size.

Thats it though. To me a dive boat is a taxi to and from the site. If it can get me to the site, find the site and get me back im happy.
