Barrie-Morrison Report

Could someone please describe for me where on shore you enter the water to access the lines which take you to the Morrison. Is it on the western side of the bay? Is there parking nearby? Is there a marker on shore?

Centennial Park, Barrie waterfront. You want the parking lot beside the mini golf and park as close to that end as you can. If you come in the driveway bside the mini golf and kept going straight to the shore, entry is probably 50 to 75 feet to the left.

Any idea who did the Scuba2000 pdf? the GPS co-ordiantes given are on the other side of the planet. We are North of the equator and West of the Prime Meridian, so any lat/long in Canada will be N degrees W degrees, Not E

I never used the GPS to get there, glad I didn't, might have had a hard time when I got to LA. The directions are otherwise fine. Don't know who did the directions, I found them on a goolge search as I needed better directions to the site. The marker is visible from shore.

You can see the bouys on the wreck from the shore, there is a opening in the rock rubble lining the shore and thats where most divers go in and find the line. There should be other divers there this weekend seeing its going to be a nice hot one! watch out! the jetskiers will be buzzing around too! consider it an overhead environment.

My buddy and I had this past Monday afternoon off and headed up to the Morrison for our first dive on it. The weather was absolutely fantastic as were the water conditions. Only mild rippling at the surface and zero boat traffic.

We swam out on the surface and descended on the line. We tied our surface marker off to the bouy's chain and followed the line out to the wreck. Visibility was about 20 to 30 feet and while we did silt things up a little bit by the blocks supporting the surface markers we didn't disturb any silt out by the wreck (high-five there J!). We saw the hull, deck and the wheel, taking our time and examining things in detail. It was a great time and the wreck, albeit not spectacular was an excellent dive. We were told there were often tons of fish at the site and although we did see a large number of Perch I'm looking forward to diving it again and seeing larger schools. Fortunately our LDS will be diving there this Saturday in the evening so I'm going to get another chance really soon.

So in summary, here's my first Morrison trip experience;

Gear up area: Clean, spacious and pretty to look at (lots of hotties on roller blades {and hunks too for you ladies}, not to mention some damn good looking divers)
Shore Entry: Trecherous but managable. Note that every stone shifts and is a potential busted ankle.
Markings: Easy to spot and navigate to marker bouys from the surface (plus there's a line on the bottom to find your way there)
Wreck: Decayed but still holding enough interesting sites to make it worthwhile
Water: Descent vis and not too cold (52 - 60F)

Definitely a fun dive!

We dove the Morrison again yesterday.

We were there around 11 and it was a bunch busier than last time.

Bottom temp was around 56F and the vis was 10' max.
