I like full pockets, too.
I've been to CoCo View many many times, and have walked that sandy path... let me do some math here... maybe 1500 times in my life. I used to wear my full pockets and then go barefootm, but after many years of diving, I changed my m.o. on this.
There's lots of stuff out in the Ocean that doesn't want us there. I don't worry about Sharks or Morays, I worry about the little, almost invisible stuff that is always trying it's best to kill us. Besides the obvious toe-rippers like ancient rock of long-ago corals, any path (or step, or ladder) can be occupied by various Urchins... those critters with those mean spikes.
When doing a shore dive at CoCoView (or anywhere), I shuffle out in Neoprene socks wearing Crocs sandals. At CCV, I leave them on the wooden dive platform that stands in 4 feet of water- tie them to a weight belt that is always there. I put on my flippers, and go from there, changing back upon return.
On drop-off dives, where you make a boat entry and exit via the shore path, I actually carabiner clip them to my bc. It adds about #1+ buoyancy. I do this process when I am doing shore dives at other places such as Bonaire.
Most people wear light booties with very light soles, very few people wear full pocket fins anymore, so you see very few people anywhere going barefoot. My choice of Neoprene socks amounts to being barefoot, so that's my take on it. In my life, I have had two Urchin spines in my foot. It sucks.
I skip the anti-Malarial meds, but I wear my Crocs. It's an individual call.
Otherwise, yes, the worst is likely the little bitty sharp rocks.
