A Bangkok woman drowned scuba diving in Sattahip after getting tangled in a buoy rope.

Hataya Rimpanavej, 35, still had rope around her wrist when navy divers recovered her body off Koh Jung June 13. She was brought back to Khao Ma Jor Pier where her grief-stricken husband, Pollapat Tanomsub, was waiting.

Pollapat said that he and his family came from Bangkok to relax in Sattahip to celebrate his wife’s birthday which was the day before this tragedy.

Sattahip Rescue chief Pichit Kiakkutan said he received a distress call from a tourist boat in Samae San that a diver had been lost for hours.

A strong undercurrent moved the boat’s anchor from its original point and the diver got tangled up in the line. She couldn’t free herself and ran out of air at more than 13 meters below the surface.

Just saw this thread. So sorry to hear. So she was diving without a buddy? Or buddy just left her to die? Why was she struggling all alone?

"A strong undercurrent moved the boat’s anchor from its original point and the diver got tangled up in the line. She couldn’t free herself and ran out of air at more than 13 meters below the surface."

None of that makes sense

That reminds me, I have to put my knife back on my BCD. My line cutter is great for fishing line but not rope.
I was thinking the same thing. The story is still confusing though. If push came to shove, get out of your bcd and untangle yourself. Worse comes to worse, take a last breath, ditch the gear, and head for the surface.

Says her wrist was wrapped up.. how tf does that happen exactly?
Unwrap your wrist, then ditch your gear and do a CESA. And dive with a buddy who can help.

my guess is the current was pushing against her and she didn't have the strength to pull herself against it to release the tension on the rope

If the buddy wasn’t helping at the least he should have been filming…:shakehead:
