I will driving back from Thanksgiving in California and was going to stop for a dive in Balmorhea Friday, Nov. 26th. Anyone going to be diving there the day after Thanksgiving?

We were there after Christmas last year. Great for a one 45 minute dive. Tons of fish that follow you everywhere and you can watch the ducks dive to the bottom to eat. The day we dove it was 29 degrees air temp. We were fine till we got out of the water. Geez, it got cold fast! Have fun!

If the air temp is cold, the first thing you do is make sure the hot water is working in the showers. Gear up, do your dive, head for the showers.

Sounds like I will use my drysuit. Not necessarily for the water but for getting out!

I was there last year on Black Friday. It was cool getting out (55 and Sunny), not cold. This time of year, the weather is highly variable. On the way home, it snowed.
Due to the depth, you can dive easy for 90+ minutes on a single tank. 3MM is fine and preferable due to the shallow depth. FYI: We saw a total of 4 other divers all day.

Last year, the only local restaurant was closed on Black Friday. Had to drive a bit to find food. Bring your own (at least lunch). The dive shop down the road was open for fills, but the owner tends to hang out at a building next door so you have to hunt him up.

Just FYI: The local restaurant is closed every Wednesday. There is a convinence store/restaurant in Saragosa about 4 miles from downtown Balmorhea on Hwy 17 off of I-10. Good hamburgers.

I'm thinking of heading there that weekend but it will take me most of Friday to get there. So prob dive on Saturday.
