Bali and the Komodo Dancer

I am new to ScubaBoard and was happy to see the video category. My wife and I did a video of our liveaboard trip from Bali to Komodo Island aboard the Komodo Dancer. We spent several days in Bali before sailing. Seeing the island is a must if you travel all that way. So glad we did, the people, culture and beauty of the island matched the underwater magic. We were accompanied by other photographer friends on the liveaboard, lots of fun comparing images at the end of the dive days. I was really excited before the dives knowing that the underwater world there would be so different than the Caribbean trips I had previously taken.

Thanks for the nice feedback. The camera was just a Sony TR101 type Hi-8. Good enough for vacation videos. I loved the Light and Motion Stingray housing with monitor back. Now I use MiniDV, but newer cameras aren't as good as that old Hi-8 in low light. I always hated the Hi-8 drop out, especially when it would happen on a great scene!

wonderful video and great timing for me - my hubby and I have been discussing a trip to Indonesia all week but can't decide if we can swing it financially.
If you don't mind my asking: how many dives did you get in? how many days did you spend land-based? cost of land trip to komodo dragons? I am thinking we would need at least 3 days topside non-diving activity days there. Yes? How did you like the Dancer?

BTW - the video was wonderfully done! Nice mix of stills and video. My favorite part was the mola mola at the end. What a magical encounter! Thanks for sharing.

Although it doesn't let out the sails that much while underway, you still get the feeling you are on an old sailing ship. Great crew, good food...we were on the 10 day cruise. The Dancer starts out in Bali and dives many sites on the way to Komodo. There are opportunities to see the dragons on Komodo and then again on other more deserted islands on the way back to Bali. I am not sure how you would get to Komodo on land.
We spent 3 days in Bali before getting on the dancer. One night in town and two nights in Ubud at Komaneka

We splurged and went a bit over our budget, but it was well worth it. After flying coach all the way to Indonesia we deserved it!

Two weeks of leisurely editing the footage. I edited to the music once it had been chosen. The opening, created in After Effects took about a week. The Psunami plug-in for After Effects creates pretty realistic water footage but renders slower than molasses. I would have do the rendering overnight and see the results in the morning.

I hear you on that one I have to do the same on my computer. Now I just got a MAC and IM still trying to learn how to use that.... Still great job....Mark
