I will be going on a 3-day cruise to the Bahamas in November and the ship will stop in Nassau/paradise island, and Cococay. The dive for the Nassau stop will be at "Tongue of the ocean"....if we book the excurtion through the Royal Carribean. I have a few questions if someone could please help me out.

How is the diving in these areas?

Are we likely to encounter a lot of current or choppy water?

How long is the boat ride to get to the reefs?

I’ve heard that the Bahamas are known for the large animal encounters. Are we likely to see dolphins, sharks and other large animals around these areas?

Thanks in advance for the information.

I was just in the Grand Bahama & Bimini region last week (I know, a bit of a distance from Nassau). The overall water conditions were great (good vis & Temps). Depending on where we were diving, there was some current here & there. As for large animal encounters...... that's mostly luck. The only time I saw sharks was during a shark feed, porpoises were running along side of the boat, but never saw any while in the water & saw some turtles & stingrays at a barge wreck near Bimini, along with the normal reef critters you'd normally see. I can't say what's right in the Nassau vicinity. Hope this helps maybe a little.

If you have the time and can arrange for it....do the shark dive with Stuart Cove's. It's a short ride out and you'll see tons of sharks.

I will second what was said about the shark feeding dive with SC, great experience! and they are a very good dive op.

The diving in the Tongue of the Ocean will be through Stuart Coves. You would probably get better diving by booking yourself. It is a 30-45 minute drive from the cruise ship and about 15 minute boat ride. They have some great wrecks, nice walls and an awesome shark dive.
