hi every body had my tanks hydro tested when i got them back the air has a smell to it . called the scuba shop which i have dealt with for 10 yrs . iwas told the air was perfectly fine they had installed some new filters which was the cause of the smell but have changed back to there original filters which cured the problem they inspected and refilled and said there was still a slight residual oder but every thing is ok. smells the same to me .i am in the collision repair buss. and know about compressors and air seperators and dryers but before i say what i think i would like to hear what you think thank you johnm

Sounds to me like the tank got contaminated and they owe you a cleaning.

If it smells it means that there is something in the air that should not be there. If something abnormal slipped into the cylinder it means that something else could potentially also have slipped in - carbon monoxide is colorless, tasteless, and odourless but a serious potential killer. I would not risk it and take their word for it, so I would either have the air independently analyzed by a reputable agent to determine what is inside and so determine if it's safe, or, probably an easier route, have them clean the tank out for you like Wildcard said.

I may be paranoid about CO but given the severe risk it could potentially pose to a diver's health, I would rather be safe than sorry, or not even have the chance to be sorry, if you get my drift. :coffee:

I wouldn't take a chance.

This happened to me once. I drained and filled my tanks 5 times and could still smell or taste the air. I ended up tumbling and cleaning them. I still suspect that they were coated with oil. I would have them cleaned.

thanks guys i took all of your advise they are cleaning them and learned a couple outstanding sayings thank you john m

Those "outstanding sayings" wouldn't be you using profanities about your LDS as you cleaned your tanks would it? :)

I'm definitely with the others, If it smells then it may be an oil residue or less likely moisture.

I would say, if they are so confident that the tanks are fine, then they should breathe a whole tank in the shop. That'll get their attention. =)

At that point I think they would clean them haha!

negative he is the only ds with in 60 miles i am not saying i didnt have a mouthfull thank you for your input he is cleaning them .thank you j/m are you near big springs used to talk to a lot of guys down there on the radio

What nobody has said is this. Your reg is contaminated as well, if there was something in the tank it passed through your reg as you breathed off it, get it cleaned as well.
