Eariler this week I posted a email that was posted on 3 diving web sites here in RI. I want to apoligize to everyone for being taken in by a liar. Seems the person that posted this BS has plans to open and air station on Jamestown. She's been passing cards out at local dive sites. The gravity of the matter and the fact that although I don't know this person she is apparently know by my in the diving community here (Deb <greenhalghdj@cox.net scubamadeeasy@cox.netI couldn't imagine someone posting pure BS knowing that they'd get called on it. Someone that stupid souldn't be anywhere an air station! IMO. So it's as safe as it as last week to get air in Newport Again sorry all.

[RogueIslandDivers] carbon monoxide inquiries

For everyone out there, I have done an extensive search on this carbon monoxide exposure and these are the results. As soon as the message was posted I waited and watched for anymore info on this---of course all questions and no answers. I decided I would find out myself. I called the RI Dept of Health and had a lengthy conversation with Bob Vanderslice. It IS a state law that any such carbon monoxide exposure that requires medical attention needs to be reported. Also if Kent or South County Hospitals fail to notify the dept then they are in violation and subject to disciplinary action. I then called Kent Hospital and spoke to Karen who is in charge of the hyperbaric unit and she is not aware of any such incident or rumor. Still looking for any leads, I proceeded to call Divers Alert Network and spoke to John. Although DAN cannot perform any investigations he suggested that any or all individuals who have any facts should come forward with all credible information and to do a complete follow-up. John searched his log and found no accidents or any such calls from either RI or Conn within the past few weeks. I then proceeded to call the Providence Journal and spoke to Tony Laroche. He was very interested in this and he was conducting his own research and came up with nothing. Channel 12,6 and 10 were also called and they too have not heard of any such accident involving any scuba divers or any carbon monoxide exposures. These are the facts and anyone who would like to contact the Dept of Health with anymore information then Bob is eagerly awaiting to hear from you. His direct line is 401-222-7766. I think I have covered all relevant bases on this and my conclusion is that it NEVER HAPPENED.

Thanks pal, yeah ya don't wana be chicken little but it ain't like its a leaky BC either. Well fool me once shame on me fool me twice shame on George Bush or something like that. Good grief! I've got TWC on and some fool is staying in the water with a mic in his hand broadcasting. Man i'd love to see a life ring from a boat fly into the frame and smack him up side his head!

Good job, AD, for following up and clearing up this matter!

Indeed, better safe than sorry. Following through to the end takes some character. Thank you.

I'm an acquaintance of Deb Greenhalgh's and I asked her to respond to the accusations of her disseminating erroneous information on "Bad Air". Here is her response:

A couple of my students work at South country and Kent hospitals as doctors and one nurse. They treated three scuba divers for CO symptoms from scuba diving cylinders. I posted the warning on the Rogue Island yahoo group to try and help by getting the word out, not for any nefarious reasons. The people were treated but the cases were not submitted to the RI health dept. Perhaps because the CO thresholds were small by the time they showed up at the hospital? I don't know why but I was told directly by the nurse and the two doctors so I believe them.

Best regards,
Mark

Really? Well not only is there no report to the proper authority which is required by RI law but there is no report at either hospital and nobody at either hospital recalls treating anyone for CO symptoms. IMO this whole story is a bunch of BS. Prove me wrong right here for the all world to see. PROOF!
So are you the boyfriend that she wants to start an air station / dive shop in Jamestown with? I’d like to meet you Mark PM me and we can meet somewhere and talk about this BS story.

As I mentioned in my post I’m an acquaintance of Deb’s which by definition means “a person whom one knows but who is not a particularly close friend” (merriam-webster.com). As a courtesy to Deb, since she was specifically cited, I forwarded her the information posted on this forum so she could respond. She responded and I posted it for the forums review. I also included her email address, which had already been posted, so that anyone could contact her directly.

This will be my final contribution to this thread and/or subsequent personal inquiry to me via email or other means.

Best regards,
Mark Munro

Each State has different laws, but putting out false information on public safety issues usually carries a penalty.

Her email above confirms she put out this information. If someone were to press the issue, and required her to provide the sources, . . . .

If anyone is a friend, now might be a good time to urge invocation of the 5th amendment.

Weak, very weak. People are judged by the company they keep. Show me who you walk with and I'll tell you who you are.
