Same thing here Ben... but Scout ~n~ UK SL6 that I use to find stuff in the bottom of the gear bag...

The backup lights shouldn't be used for anything else and reliability is the primary concern.

Both of you make great points, either about backups, or the handhelds.

The princeton does not seem as strong as the Halcyons that I have looked at. I have beat on them a little bit, just to see if they could take it, and they held up. Although, I would like something stronger. Looks like I will have to bite the bulb and by something like the CE. The photos would be great. Thanks.

Exactly - it's 1/8" plastic versus 3/16" Delrin. Delrin is tougher than heck.

Here's a side-by-side photo of the Canadian Extreme and the Princeton Tec 40. The CE is the dimmer light on the left, the PT40 the brighter light on the right. Note that the CE uses a small xenon bulb, versus the PT40's normal flashlight-sized halogen bulb. The CE is still by far the best choice for a BACKUP light in my opinion, due to it's reliability, even over the Scout, as the Scout only has a single o-ring under the light bezel, and the CE has two.

Thanks!!! I appreciate the heck out of the picture. The CE does not seem to be too dim for a backup. I do like the double o-ring desing. I noticed that on the webpage. I know I want this over the Halcyon, that is for sure. Cheaper, and maybe a little better. Thanks again!

BTW, do you know what the rating is on the CE light? As far as watts that is.

The SL4 is rated at 5.5W with 4 C-cell batteries, the CE only uses 3 batteries, and it's been about 10 years since I did any electrical power formula calculations - so I'm not sure if it's 5.5W or less as a result.
