Hello there!

Really interested in this lens + mount
But did not find any reviews or real use experiences.

My concern is about the distance from lens to GoPro, being the same lens from AOI
This is Due to the added red filter placed in the lens mount.

For sure something will be different

What do you think?

My understanding is that the UWL-03 (Sharp Wide Lens) is a "water contact optic." The design likely requires water for the lens to focus. Backscatters filters probably have similar optical properties to water. I can let you know in a few weeks when I use one.

Granted, this is from backscatter, but the video looked awesome and I trust them.

I had in the past Aoi wide lens for GoPro, that’s why I’m wondering about the space between GoPro case and the wide angle lens.

In the AOI version there is no space, but in. This Backscatter something like 3 mm high.
This space will be filled by water or by the filter.

For sure the result will be different from aoi

Physics Is Physics

Hope you got my point.

Just back from the Maldives. The red filter doesn’t make a difference in terms of focal length. I did find that I took almost all of the clips 30cm or less from whether I was shooting.

I have one and love it! It is a wet lens and only really works in the water. I took this pic with it.

I've been using the Backscatter Sharp Wide lens with Gopro 11 on my last two dive trips -- it is excellent.

As stated above, it is a wet lens so there must be water between the lens and the camera housing for it to work properly. My SOP is at the beginning of the dive (usually on the decent line) I remove the lens to burp out any air bubbles that may be stuck between the lens and housing.

The filters slide into the wet slot and do not change the focal length of the system in any way.

I shoot primarily CFWA and have found that my camera will focus sharply even inside of 6" to the subject.

The edge sharpness is excellent as well.

Dollar-for-dollar, this is an amazing value as it captures nearly equal image quality as my DSLR running a rectilinear WA lens behind a dome port and a +2 diopter at like 1/10 the cost.

I shot this clip at 100’ deep, two Sola 2500 lights on 8” arms pointed away from center, subject was 6-8” from the lens…

How do you suppose the turtle liked having a camera and a couple of bright lights 6-8" in front of his face?
