I have recently started diving with a backplate and noticed when I am in my 3mm my backplate tends to dig into my lower back. I didn't notice any problems when I was diving with the backplate and my drysuit. Any suggestions? I am still working on the adjustment of the harness with different exposure protection configurations (3mm, 7mm, drysuit) could this be an adjustment issue?

I also noticed on a Halcyon backplate where the bottom corners are bent slightly towards the cylinder. Does anyone know why Halcyon does this?

I did the same thing to my back plates. There are different length BP. I had the same problem before. I tried a SS and it was to long. Standard length is 15". I got rid of it and got a AL plate and cut it to fit my back. AL was just easier to do that's why I went to AL. Now I made a couple of different lenghts to see what works best. Try blending the tips uot first and if that don't help then you may need a shorter length plate.

My S&W backplate has the corners bent slightly away from my back. No problems digging in whatsoever. Maybe you could take it to a local metal shop and have them bend it.

What part of the backplate is digging in?

Jim

The lower corners of the backplate dig in to my lower back/hips. This only happens when I am wearing my 3mm and walking with the backplate. When I am swimming I don't have any problems. Now someone is going to bring up the question...why are you walking while wearing your backplate. I was practicing with the backplate at the pool in anticipation of working with students at the pool and of doing shore entries on some warm tropical island somewhere.
