They are about -2.5, and work just fine. I like 'em, in fact, as without them my head tends to bang on the valve or reg - with they're at just the right distance.

I used to have that problem when I used a Ranger. Now it's no longer an issue for me.

With a steelie single (HP) tank, and a 3 mil full wetsuit, BP + STA, I need 2lbs of lead.

If I want to dive in a bathing suit then its a problem (I need an AL tank and AL BP) but otherwise I've got no problem weight-wise using the SS BP & STA.

In a 3/2 shorty with an AL80 in fresh water and a steel BP I use 0lbs. To me this is ideal, the day I can't swim up 6lbs is the day I quit diving so no need to lecture me about ditchable weight.

In colder conditions when I'm using more thermal protection or possibly in salt water I could use an STA without worrying about the weight, but considering the hassle involved with switching and the fact that my tank is perfectly stable without, I don't see the need.

Not saying you shouldn't use an STA, just that it's not necissarily right for everyone.

Mine is perfectly stable without an STA, which is a good thing because I'd be over weighted with one.

The STA that oxycheq sells is less than 1 lb, with the water it displaces its even less negative..

it may be stable without an STA but it definately feels more secure with one.. I don't dive singles but it can't be a coincidence that every diver I know that has the Halycon wing decided to stick with an STA once they tried it..
