I'm looking to buy a BP/W setup and I was wondering if most backplates are the same length?

From what I've looked at online so far most don't list the length of the plate. I'm 6' 11" so I'm looking for something that will cover more of my back. I have seen some that say long and give a height range, but nothing with specific measurements. How much does the length matter?

Most are standard size. For your size, take a look at Deep Sea Supply, they have several sizes and guidelines for each. The owner, Tobin, is very active on the board. The length can play a big part in how your waist belt fits. Best of luck.

No, not all the backplates are the same length, even they are "standard" size of "regular" size. I have tried DiveRite, OMS, Halcyon, HOG, DSS regular. They are "about" the same, with about = 1/2" differences between the longest (HOG) and shortest (DSS regular)

at you're height your only option is either custom which you'd have to do yourself, or get one of the extra long plates from Tobin at Deep Sea Supply. Give him a call.

I'm tall, but you take it to a whole different level... I'm 6'-7", and there was a significant difference going to the long BP in terms of fitting me properly. For doubles, and being able to position things so i could reach correctly, as well as have acceptable stability, the X-Long was my solution.

DSS (aside from custom) is your best bet. Sucks because the cost for the product is high(er), but you have dealt with that all your life, I'm sure.

Get in touch with Tobin. The X-long plate is a great option.

Proper location of the waist belt, as well as the angle of the shoulder straps (direction of pull) are necessary for proper stability...

It doesn't hurt that the DSS gear it also top notch stuff. It's not like you're having to compromise on quality to get the size you need by going with DSS.

Also, I think if you click into the Details, the DSS website does give actual dimensions on their BPs and their wings.
