Cecil:
I'm looking at doing a two tanker later this week. EAB suggested starting on Back beach and diving to Front beach then the reverse on the second dive. Some interesting logistics but I was wondering about the structure in between. Is it worth it? I'm a photographer and my buddy a sightseerer and we are both experienced. Any info is appreciated.
If we don't do this we'll probably do two tanks at Folly. Where else is worth two tanks?
This is much easier on weekdays, but here's how I've done it... Drop off a set of tanks at the right side of Back Beach. Drop one car at the left side. Take the other car and set of gear to Front Beach. First dive is Front to Back, swap off your tanks in the middle, which is really the right side of Back Beach. Then make your way over to the left side and do that. When you come out, collect your car on the left side of Back Beach, get your tanks on the right side, and then get the other car at Front Beach. While it sounds confusing, it flows really well on weekdays. Again, I've never tried it on a weekend.
The terrain is rocky, lots of kelp and critters.
Other sites worthy of 2 tanks? Folly for sure if the tides are there. If not, Old Garden. The right side is great. Rocky bottom, lots of life. If you head out towards the green barrel (Gap Head Pinnacle for all you CAD boat divers), there is a wall that drops to about 60' at low tide. Otherwise, just shoot up the middle to the crescent shaped reef. I have heard the left is pretty cool, but I've never done it. Maybe someone will chime in with that info.
Have fun. Let us (me) know what you end up doing, and how you like it!
