Back to Cozumel next week

Howdy,

It looks like I’m going to take a few days from my upcoming cave trip to do some diving in Cozumel, it’s been several years since I’ve been there. Is the water temp really 85F? I used to use a 3mil suit most of the time in Coz, but if the water is really that warm I’ll just take a skin. I already have to take a thicker suit for cave diving and 4 regulators, 2 wings, lights, etc…so I’m anxious to keep my luggage weight down.

Is this a measurement of surface temperature? Going to be warmer at the surface than at diving depth.

Not much. The current keeps things fairly well mixed from the surface down to 100' or more.

I've never detected any significant thermocline there. If it has been rainy all week you might feel patches of cooler water from the runoff but nothing significant.

AS for thermoclines, after 30 years of regular diving in Cozumel, I would never expect it, as normally the same temp from 10 to 250 down all the time. And yes in my younger crazy days I tested that many times with my partner MEMO of ALDORA!

As others have said after big rains some underground springs on the wall may create a Halocline--looks like greasy water and significantly colder. but it is very localized.
