Tommy,

The pool session is at New Wave Scuba in Port Clinton Ohio. Then we go to the Gilboa quarry in Findlay Ohio for the rest of the weekend. Andrew G. from Fifth Dimension on the west coast is the instructor.

I've seen the GUE web site, but I just knew there was something they were going to throw at us that wasn't on that site! Just trying to get a peek at what that was....

I agree with you about the book info. This class time is no time to find out that you haven't done your homework!

Jack

L_D,

I'll be happy to do that, if they haven't beaten the cr*p out of me!

Uhm - what to expect - well, let's just say that if you can think of what "all hell breaks loose" means at 60 fsw - you will have a pretty good idea...

Really - the class drills skills - such as buoyancy, trim, finning, valve drills, S drills and mask removal - remember when you had to do this maybe oh- once in OW? well - once does not cut it here - you are trained to the point where you are completely comfortable running out of gas while trying to find your mask... it is a gradual buildup to the last couple of dives and nobody will spring anything on you that you are not prepared for, after the drills you will surface and discuss the work - then drop and do it again...

I will recommend that you have at least:
Spare mask, wet notes, sausage and spool going into the class.

It is also highly recommendable that you have DIR style bellows pockets on your suit as you will have the opportunity to learn how to set them up right and what to carry.

As far as the "pre" tech 1 or cave 1 - yes, these are the basic skills you have to do 100% to get through tech one. The 300m swim in 12 minutes is the same as the tech 1 requirment.

If anything comes to mind for me - if you can - take the class - it is the best diving class you will ever take and worth every penny.

LD - if you are up there and thinking about it - take it!!! Andrew is the training director for GUE so you are not going to get a better class and I think it will be a while before he comes back to teach it again...

Cheers,

Big T
