back plate & wing BC

I,m getting a deep sea supply backplate & wing BC next week and am considering using an OMS comfort harness instead of the deep sea supply comfort harness, I "ll have to see which fit is most comfortable for me.Has any one had any problem with mixing the two systems?

Hello Robert,
My thoughts are you should look into just the basic harness, Reason being it can grow with you into technical diving and thats all you really need is the basic harness. Your system is not all clutterd with harness and crap, The basic harness opens your front of your body up alot for trim reasons (im not perfect at trim Not even Close yet). I noticed alot of divers on this board go from Comfort Harness,Tranpac,Apeks WTX Harness to the basic rig harness (hog Harness). They are really comfy in the water and is not bad on land, In the water you dont even notice the rig is there which is really nice.
Thats just my thinking

I have the DSS pro-fit harness (without a chest strap) and have never been uncomfortable. I don't think you'll be able to tell a difference to be honest.

I own a OMS comfort harness and if your diving with a wet suit it's fine, however if your diving with just a t-shirt or bare chested, the rear corners of the comfort harness pad can digg into your shoulders. Not so comfortable. I have since switched to the hog harness system(soft webbing) and am not looking back, it's just like wearing a backpack. Buy your self some cheap soft webbing(I got some for $1 a foot) and try it out for your self. Then if it's not for you get your comfort harness. Also the hogg harness dries alot quicker if you have to carry your equipment very far after your dry.

Good luck finding out what works the best for you! It seems to take me aleast a couple of tries to get it right.

Robert,

Most plates will accept any harness that's based on 2 inch webbing. DSS plates can be used with OMS "Comfort" harnesses, etc.

I would still recommend using the standard "Hogarthian" Harness. Why? They are cheaper, accepted by all Tech Training Agencies, and really not a big deal to use.

Hogarthian Harnesses take a little time to set up, and a little practice to get used to, but they are not more difficult or less comfortable than other choices, just a bit different.

Lastly, If you are contemplating a DSS plate and wing, you will get a substainital discount if you buy a "complete rig" That's a package including a plate, wing, harness and cambands/wedge blocks.

You can always swap harnesses later if you want, but very few do.

If you can't tell the difference, then it is better to use the hog harness. It costs less, and there is less chance of failure.

I have the OMS comfort harness and I like mine.. I have about 6 or 7 hour's on it now and love it,but everybody is different.. If I ever change I'll go to a standard harness.
