Took my OW with a back style, decided I did not care for it and bought a jacket style which I am now in the process of selling to go back to back style so go figure ;)

While I only have 6 dives with my new equipment, I really like the back inflation style BC (ScubaPro Knighthawk) while sub-surface. However, I find it difficult to deal with while on the surface as it pitches you forward and I find myself kicking like an idiot to keep my face out the water:)

I still feel this trade-off is worth the underwater benefits..

I was afraid of this very thing when I was deciding which type of BC to buy. I decided the comfort of the back inflate outweighed my fears of being face down on the surface. Found, to my relief, that if I don't fully inflate, I don't have the face down problem.

Don't inflate your BC all the way, and it should help.

I dive with back style & my wife with a jacket. I like the freedom I get. I guess thats better for me. She likes the feeling on the suface. Thats better for her.

Like kwickert said, just lay back. I use back inflation and love it underwater, and actually on the surface too. I just lay back like im on a raft works great for me.

I am happy with my back inflate. I have about half of my weight in the back pockets which may help on the surface too.

Ok, new to this forum, so I don't really know the technical aspect of it. Let's see if this works. My instructor (SSI) said that the back inflation does push you forward on the surface. But, you are not spposed to inflate it so much that it pushes you over. If you must inflate it that much to stay on the surface, you are weighted too much.

I love the back because there is less bulk in the front and you can get to your gear.
