I don't care too much about about brand loyalty and such, I just need something that's low cost and works well.

welcome to scubaboard smokin. best wishes and hope you find something suiting your needs. i can help out with an ABS backplate and harness but the sing is usually what is so tough to find within a reasonable $.... however i believe there are a few places out there that still have stock on a DIVERITE Venture wing (360) brand new for about $175

if you are a new diver (looks like you are) id probably stick with a steel backplate until you have a good idea how your weight and buoyancy trims out ... just my two cents

I really appreciate it! I'm on a lot of internet forums for my various hobby's and let me just say I'm overwhelmed with the quick responses and friendly people here on SB!

ShakaZulu, I understand it's not low cost, I'm just trying to save some money for actually getting out there and diving. Thanx for the offer but I think I'll have to pass, I'm looking for something in the $200 and under range and I don't want to lowball you.

Laguna, I'll check it out, thanx!

From my own 6-month long search, I found that finding a singles setup under $200 is difficult. I had a few offers in the $175-$190 range for the HOG 32#. A backplate will run $50 at the low end and putting a harness together yourself will push $30 once you include shipping. I got my singles setup (36#+SSBP+STA) for $250 (+sh) and my doubles (45#+ALBP) for about $150 (+sh).

That said, I'm very happy I got a BP/W. It's been worth the money, and it's the only thing I own that was over $100 (incl reg, computer, wetsuit, twinset, etc).

I have an OMS single bladder wing and SS BP if you are interested. The wing has 94lbs of lift and is red. I will let it go to you for $250 plus shipping. Below is the link to the CL ad I posted here locally. If you want more pics I can oblige.
