The award-winning M/V Spree live-aboard dive vessel has announced it is now taking charter bookings to the Bahamas. With this expansion and a new international load line designation, the M/V Spree now offers charters from Florida to the Bahamas, as well as cost-effective charters with a Bahamas-only departure and return. Charters are being accepted for fall and winter 2013 and 2014 trips.
According to Boat Captain and Owner Frank Wasson, “We are pleased to have received this new designation which allows the MV Spree to expand its destinations and options for scuba diving groups and travelers. There are a number of new areas which we are looking forward to exploring.”
Wasson outlined some of the new International Charter Destinations which include:
Northern Bahamas: Departing from and returning to Miami/Ft. Lauderdale, the M/V Spree now offers 5, 6, and 7-day itineraries to the Northern Bahamas, including Tiger Beach, Little Bahama Bank, and the exhilarating shark and dolphin diving that the area is known for. Although our vessel can comfortably accommodate up to 24 passengers, Northern Bahamas itineraries are limited to a maximum of 12 passengers and 2 “expedition leaders”.
Southern Bahamas and Cay Sal Bank: Departing from and returning to Miami/Ft. Lauderdale, the M/V Spree now offers 7 to 10 day itineraries to the Southern Bahamas, including Bimini, Cay Sal Bank, and the Old Bahamas Channel. This area features beautiful healthy reefs and is replete with large pelagic fish and mammal encounters. Although our vessel can comfortably accommodate up to 24 passengers, Southern Bahamas itineraries are limited to a maximum of 12 passengers and 2 “expedition leaders”.
Bahamas: Departing from and returning to the Bahamas, the M/V Spree also offers cost-effective 5 to 10 day charters that remain exclusively in the Bahamas area and can accept up to 22 passengers and 2 “expedition leaders”. With no transit times, these charters are packed with exciting marine animal encounters and visually stunning ocean experiences.
In addition to recreational scuba diving charters, the M/V Spree also offers:

  • Tek-lite and technical diving charters
  • Research charters
  • Shark charters
  • Dolphin watching charters
  • Birding charters
Greatly expanding dive stores’ opportunities to provide new itineraries and new adventures for their customers, the M/V Spree is the only US-based liveaboard dive vessel of its class with an international load line. With an international load line, commercial boats can carry passengers outside of US waters, both on “domestic” trips (for example, from Key West to Puerto Rico) and on “international” trips (for example, from Miami to the Northern Bahamas).
The granting of an international load line to commercial passenger vessels is an endorsement of the seaworthiness of the vessel. This endorsement includes ensuring that the hull is robust and can withstand severe sea conditions, that the vessel is weathertight and watertight, and that the vessel has adequate stability for all operating conditions. Periodic inspections verify that the seaworthiness of the vessel is continuously maintained. As the only US-based liveaboard dive vessel of its class to be granted an international load line, passengers can be assured that the M/V Spree operates safely both as a vessel and in her diving operations.
The Spree accepting only charters (no open booking) for 2013 and 2014. Charter pricing is set at $6,000 per diving day and includes fuel, port fees, nitrox, tanks and weights, professional crew, plentiful meals, and all other extras.
