Concur - the Suunto Cobra, Vytec, Vyper only show Avg Depth after the dive, not during.

What are you planning to do witht hat number, do underwater SCFM calculations?

Youch!

Looks like a gap in the market.

I don't think there's sufficient demand in the market that many of the computer programmers will take notice. It's a very small percentage of divers who use average depth during the dive.

Deco planning would be my first thought here.

I concur.

Yes, I wanted to use it as a backup to my intuition while doing ratio deco planning. I don't think I'd regret having that info on screen if a dive went wrong, so while I am shopping around I thought I would look for one that could provide it.

It's frustrating, because it is an incredibly simple calculation for a dive computer that is already sampling depth data every 5 or 15 seconds. Oh well, the quest for the ultimate low cost dive computer continues...

^^

Personally, I think the 2G is the best computer for depth averaging from a ratio deco standpoint, simply because it's re-settable. When you pass your deepest bottle, you can hit reset and get the average for just the bottom segment to feed into your ratio.

Can you briefly describe the term ratio deco. That's a new one for me. It sounds like you are making on the fly deco plans underwater. Never done that before. All my deco diving to date has been to a fairly straight forward prescribed deco profile (pre-planned before the dive).

That's about as brief a description as they come.

Essentially, it's a method to a) determine decompression requirements and b) determine the schedule over which to best fulfill those requirements. It's based on using a specific series of gases.

It's witch-craft....stay clear!
