Sorry, guess that would make a difference. OKLAHOMA!!!

A group calss usually runs around $300. and includes everything except your personal gear. Your personal gear includes your mask, snorkel, fins and booties. Expect to pay $150 - $300 for these items.

This is just a general answer, search for threads about selecting and instructor for more good info.

I'm in the Louisville Ky area and costs here are around $350-$400 for the OW class. We have a few shops and they are all about the same overall.

Just trying to get an average cost of OW cert per person? Thanks

The fees vary a LOT depending upon where you checkout, and local pricing. I'll give you Denver PADI fees which are in line with a lot of places I've traveled (like FL). This assumes group instruction. Private instruction is much more expensive.

OW class/pool - $150
OW Crewpak - $40-$80 (depending upon where you purchase)
CO Dives - $125-$200 (based on where you CO)
Referral Fee - $25 (if necessary)

Different LDS's break down these costs in different ways, but if you shop around, they are generally all about the same price in the long run.

Plan on personal gear expenses which for new equipment is going to run $200-$350 depending on what, and where you purchase.

I've heard *myths* about Cert courses in FL that run $100 for the whole thing, but I've never been in a FL LDS where that was the case. I have found that getting certified there runs $275-$500, and referrals are $150-$250.

When I was getting certified, I checked out COZ prices as well, and they also run around $300-$500 with referrals about $200.

Cheers!

I just paid $255 for my girlfriend to get certified. But then I ended up getting talked into (by her) taking the entire class with her as a refresher which was another $140.

I paid over 400 dollars to get OW cerified in western NY... But I looked around other states like Washington state and Florida, usually around 150 dollars for the course itself. Oh well...

A dive shop here advertises its regular fee to be $499 US, but almost always offers a special for $299. This is an especially good deal because it includes everything: all gear rental including mask, fins, snorkel, PADI fees, book, RDP and pool fees.

For budgeting purposes a good price to use would be $500.

This budget price includes the cost of a mask, snorkel, hard sole booties and open heel fins.

You can go cheaper/higher on the equipment cost.
