OK you bunch of kelp diving lovers, I need some help.

I have been searching several sites trying to ascertain the Avalon Harbor cleanup day for 2003. I believe it might be 2/22/2003 but not sure. I checked the CCD website and Catalina.com but to no avail.

Anyone have any info, I realize it is still 3 months away but I am trying to determine if it will be feasible to make it this coming year.

Any and all help deeply appreciated.

Yes, Socal, the date has been set for February 22, 2003. From what I understand (I am a CCD member), more info should be available soon. When I hear something further, I will post a link on the calendar...

to design this year's T-shirt. If anyone wants the contacts for that, send me a PM.

The actual cleanup, or the T-shirt design?

As for the cleanup, it's an annual event (this will be the 23rd annual cleanup) and ususally draws about 500 participants. People dive at various locations in Avalon Harbor and pick up the trash that has accumulated. Stuff falls off boats at the moorings, off the Green Pleasure Pier, etc, and ends up in the water. There are awards given for finds in different categories - the smallest item, the most valuable, the most useless, household goods, etc. There are also lots of door and raffle prizes. Generally, it is a lot of fun - and seeing the divers go into the harbor is an interesting sight.

As for the T-shirt design, there is a limit on the number of colors to be used, and the deadline is, I believe, December 1. I can forward what I received if that part is of interest.

I've got my fingers crossed that it won't interfere with my work schedule.

Arnaud,
The Harbor cleanup is a lot of fun. The diving isn't like ove at Casino Point or other places along the island. It is mostly a sandy bottom. But you have a blast, especially if you have a group that hangs out together. You would be surprised at some of the items that are brought out of the water.

And the get together afterwards where people tell their "stories" is hilarious.

Like I said earlier, if my work schedule allows me I will be there. Maybe we can organize a group of NDI to participate in the cleanup and afterwards do a couple of dives over at the Point.

Well, if they don't clean it up, someone's got to do it! The date works for me. Let me know how I can join the effort.
