I also consider Australia my second home, I have close friends and family in Vic.
The emails bring tears to your eyes. We have a hard time not being there for them. But our thoughts and prayers travel along ways.

We had an almost torrential down pour the other day and I started to curse...then I kicked my ass for being selfish.

When you realize how much destruction can happen in a short time and how lives are changed forever, your life isn't that tough.

Please help if you can, it always comes back 10 fold when you least expect it.

    U/O

I'm happy to say that my company raised $4k from the employees, which was matched 2:1 by the company, so $12k in total :) Pretty good considering we only have about 40 employees. There were also donations of blankets, food, petfood and other items

I also sent out an e-mail to all my close friends soliciting pledges, and recieved 8 donations. The funny thing was, 7 of them were from women. The friends I e-mailed are split 50/50 between men and women.

Is this a sign that women are more empathetic with these sorts of things? Or maybe the guys were better organised and had already made their own independant donations, or prefer to be self-reliant when making donations??

I just thought it was curious

Yes perhaps the guys had already donated. Weird. From what I've seen on TV I think the guys are pretty empathetic.

And wow, that's great on the fundraising. :)

We need to keep this topic on the front page so many people who need help! Ordinary people trying to live their lives... I can't image your entire town wiped out...how that would make you feel!

Again, thank you so much. I couldn't figure that out, I'm a bit html challenged. :)
