conditions are still cold and crummy at the moment so no diving for me still. However I did get my tetnus shot (ouch) and antimaleria meds so I am ready for Vanuatu.

Lucky devil.... well ... kinda.... I would love some warm water diving *sigh*

Hi guys,

What a cold weekend for diving :cold:

Starlet and i got three dives in, one on Saturday and two today.

Saturday was pretty cool, we went along to 'Clean up the Bay day' which was organised by Carl Fallon. The aim is to obviously clean up Botany Bay and to get the idea out that cleanup days need to be more frequent. People just kind of hang around for Clean up Australia Day, but the problem is a lot bigger than one day can fix. So we did a dive at Frenchmans bay (which is around near the shops/cafes). There were heaps of bottles and junk to pick up, i found a dolphin torch and one of the girls that was with us found a couple of little medicine bottles with a white powder in it.. Not too sure what it was :uptosome:

The water was 16 and a half degrees, so a bit of a shock to the system.. We managed our longest dive to date which was cool - 60 minutes. Our breathing and confidence must be getting better! :cool2:

Today we did Steps to Steps twice.. First dive was hard as i was extremely hungover from my best mates birthday Saturday night. Climbing those bloody steps after it nearly killed me. Saw two weedies, a big friendly groper, some juvenile leather jackets (which are the cutest!!) and i think that was about it. Was good on air again, came up with 100 bar after a 43 minute dive.

Second dive we headed up towards Leap and saw a few more weedies, a few octopi, a catfish ball, and two Giant Cuttlefish (oh and a baby which was cute).

The dives were good, i am feeling a lot more confident in the water now, though i will never let myself become complacent, it's just nice to be able to dive and have a small sense of familiarity. It means that i can concentrate a bit more on Navigation and diving longer etc...

Hope everyone else had fun!

Nice work!

Oh I always leave the beer bottles behind for the octopuses! They love those and make homes out of them. :) I wonder what the white powder was hmmm :)

Oh what I would do for 16.5C. Sydney people :shakehead: :rofl3:

Congrats! Anyway sounds like some nice dives toefa + starlet! :)

I got out for two boat dives today. Off a private boat, so cheap! And was nice to go at our own pace. Just got my housing back after the dive (Michael did some shore dives to look for bottles and did not join me + Paul so I did not see him before the dives) so no u/w pictures today but I got some above water ones :)

Here is sunrise near where we launched the boat. I was up at 5.30am :shakehead:

Other boat during the SI - it was a club dive day so there were two boats running, each with three in it. Our boat was similar size and we had two boat licenced people on each boat so Paul did the driving and I slept whilst our captain dove. :) You can see that it is very calm! We were diving outside the heads and usually it is quite rough.

Paul *finally* caught a crayfish. Which is great as now we do not have to spend precious dive time looking for the bugs as he says he just wanted to try one that he caught himself. ;) (I really hate cray diving!!!)

The first dive we were supposed to be diving the Coogee wreck (after a fruitless search for the J4), but we ended up in the middle of nowhere at 33m. There was a problem with the other boat's sounder I think (and it did not work on the boat I was on). We just kind of floated around til we ran out of NDL and ascended so just a short dive (31min). Second dive was awesome! Saw lots of crayfish, some PJ sharks, tonnes of fish, and it was quite relaxing as the surge meant we did not have to fin much. We had to end earlier than expected (43min) as Paul had not planned to catch a crayfish and did not have a bag, so it was ascend or keep diving with a large angry crayfish in his hand. Both dives we had amazing viz at 15m and then 20m I think.

Good morning everyone :D

Had a really great weekend, I loved giving back to mother nature on Saturday. There was so much rubbish, it makes me sad to think that people don't give littering a second thought.

On Saturday, as Toefa mentioned the water temp was 16.5 and I was freezing! 30 minutes into the dive I thought I'd have to end the dive but amazingly my body must have heated up the thin layer of water in my wetsuit and I was fine for the next 30 mins - yay!

Sunday was much better (apart from the hangover). Water was about 18.5 but air temp felt like 14! Really glad we braved the cold, I feel the cold pretty bad so it was a big thing for me to push myself yesterday.

Sas, the sunrise pic looks beautiful!

Cheers
Starlet :)
