I'd like to share my experience with my setup; I use an external Intova iss2000 strobe using an optical line to fire my strobe using minimal flash setting. After several good shots, I notice the controls of the camera no longer operates, sometimes it's the shutter, sometimes it's the function knobs like from macro to normal to manual focus or the flash on /flash off controls. I turn it off and on after several moments and it works again, sometimes it does not. I wonder if it's the unit overheating inside the thick Ike housing that causes it? If someone else has a similar experience, I'd like to know or better, if someones knows a fix, would appreciate it. This hasn't happened yet topside but then again, I don't shoot as much using flash rapidly unlike what I do underwater.

A couple of things come to mind;

1 - Water pressure can sometimes be an issue with the buttons, controls, expansion, compression, etc.

2 - I experienced similar "symptoms" early on with my Ike/S90. The cause ? The zoom control of the Ike. If you are zooming in or out, you must MANUALLY return the control back to the middle or center or "zero". Should you zoom and take your fingers off the control with out doing so, the all controls/buttons stop functioning, until you return the zoom control back. basically the entire camera freezes up, while still on. The zoom control on the Ike is NOT spring loaded, so it will not return itself back to "zero" or middle. I would bet dollars to doughnuts, that this is probably your issue.

I don't think your camera is overheating, as I haven't "heard that one" before. However, I could be wrong. I think that your battery would die before you fire off enough flash pictures on a single dive before it would over heat.

hi Prandy... seems like muzikbiz22 had given similar response to what I posted on FB. Below is a repost for others:

"Overheating a camera underwater does not change housing size as the external water always cools the housing. There is a big chance (which happens all the time) that either the rear dial, front dial is engaged halfway in between commands or the zoom lever is engaged. Note that all cameras will have its functions useless once one of it's controls is engaged."

Hope this helps.

I am very new with my S95 and Ikelite housing but I had the exact issue Muzik mentioned. I had zoomed in then could not get the shutter to function. In reading the Ikelite instruction manual (which I did last because thats what we do) I discovered that as Muzik says the zoom knob needs to be centered. Worked great ever since.

The zoom control is touching the camera zoom lever which prevents any further function. If that is not the issue then another button is being partly pressed, like the short cut perhaps. The Ikelite housing is heavy duty but kinda clunky and not very precise, sort of the problem with ones size fits all.

thanks, folks. that gives me some peace of mind. will try that next time.

This was happening to me, the rear dial buttons were slightly loose, pushed them all tight, and have had no issues since.
