I have an Ikelite housing for the Canon Rebel XSI.

I normally don't attach a lanyard to my camera, I plan on diving off a large boat where they hand you your camera by attaching a rope to it and lowering it about 8' from the boat deck to the water.

One person recommended drilling a hole in the base near the handle. That would be the most secure, but the idea of drilling a hole in my brand new system makes me nervous.

I'd like to attach some type of clip that the DM to easily and securely attach to my housing.

Below is the stock photo of the housing. I also have a strobe and 8" strobe wtih Shade, so it's a fairly large piece of equipment.

Sorry if there are answers elsewhere. I searched but was only able to find info on attaching your housing to you BCD.

You should be able to easily tie a line to a handle, and keep it from sliding up by tying a knot across the tray, so you have a knot above and below the tray around the handle. Once you have a secure line to the housing you can make a loop at the end, and attach any other rope or lanyard to it.

What if on the screw in attachment for the handle you could use a figure 8 configuration, take off the threaded wing nut attachment place the figure 8 into the threaded bolt screw bolt back into the handle...leaving a circle they can hook into. Can't imagine it would be too hard to find or manufacter

don't drill anything there is some 8-figure washers that you can get at hardware stores; screw one of the knobs through one of the holes and into the tray, and thread the lanyard in the other hole.

As I suspected, the idea of drilling a hole in the base was probably a little extreme. I'm going to look into the washer and attaching a clip.
