???????? Care to explain?

Brass bolt snaps, in general, get very sharp on the edges and will cut your thumb when you use them.

It's not just me, it's actually a commonly known issue amoungst those who use them often.

Are you serious???? I have a number of them and never had any issues with them, maybe it's the calluses on my fingers or something. :D

very serious. Take an informal poll in the tech dive community to see. Actually you can find that very info right here on SB or the DecoStop.

I won't use them anymore becuase they cut my reef gloves. and they shred my thumb.

I am not doubting you, just shocked that is all. Pretty much every one I have is smooth from use and never had issues with them, maybe the problem ones were from the same batch?

they seem to get sharper the more you use them. Maybe the ones you have are better quality than the rest. Most of the tech divers I know won't use 'em for the very reason we talked about. Then again, maybe you have fingers made of iron :D !

maybe mine are different then or the fingers are of iron :D

You mean the inside top edge of the barrel, where the bolt moves back and forth and maybe hones an edge in the softer brass?
that's where it gets sharp. When the bolt moves down to it's farthest travel the edges of the barrel at the top where one's thumb would come to rest either gets sharp or comes from the factory that way.

In fact there is a thread someplace on Scubaboard about it, I think.

I replaced mine after it cut my thumb to peices. Then I learn about brass bolt snaps here or someplece else. (can't remember)

I have used the mega big thumbstud ones and did not have problems with them. BigStud Brass

I too have switched to S.S. The brass ones would corrode and be a pain. I buy the SS clips at a marine store and make sure they are high grade SS.

I used a SS Split ring on my console and cross clip it to the front of my BC so a glance down I can see the gauges without moving them. The compass is seperate on a retractor and the computer on the wrist.

I do not think I'd take the puter off my wrist now that I have used it there. I liked being able to watch my ascent indicator on a hands high save once bouncing in and out of the red to know that is "As Fast as I Dare Go."

just my .02
