Can anyone point me to step-by-step instructions for the DIR-sanctioned way of attaching bolt snaps to the primary second stage and SPG?

I've already had the experience of tying a bolt snap to a backup light, following this procedure: https://www.divegearexpress.com/library/boltsnap.shtml. But I'm not certain how to extrapolate that into attaching one to a hose.

I found this description that was posted in an old SB thread: How to tie the perfect boltsnap at Wreck and Cave. If this is the proper way, do I do it exactly the same way on both the primary second stage hose and SPG hose?

I'll be taking GUE Fundies at some point and don't want the instructor to tell me I've got it wrong.

Method is the same as tying on to the backup light (portion of the backup light that you loop the line around is replaced by the hose). I like the pictures in the wreckandcave link better. They're tied onto primary and SPG the same way.

They will show you how to do this. You are paying for the class which will include some tricks of the trade. ;)

That being said.......Lonebrave speaks the truth.

I'm kind of a take-things-in-steps guy. I bought my first long-hose reg set the other day, and next week I will get a few dives in with it to see how it feels. Then I'm scheduled to take GUE Primer class. And then if all goes well, Fundies will follow. I'll probably do some more dives with the new gear configuration between Primer and Fundies to further get comfortable with it and try out some of what I learn in Primer. I'm obviously in no rush :cool2:

Yes. Doesn't have to be ridiculously tight either because when pressure is applied to the hose it will be plenty tight. I think you should be asking these questions and getting your kit as correct as possible before the class, not just sit around and wait to be taught something;)

I did some dives with the new rig last weekend, and believe me, I have several questions about how it is set up. Whether I attached the bolt snaps correctly is the least of my concerns. That said, I'm really looking forward to Primer in two weeks.

Sorry to revive this thread but just a question.

Why finish off with a reef knot instead of a "dead" double overhand knot, if the intention is to prevent the knot from coming loose?
