Conor, have you considered using a 5' hose for your primary and putting your backup reg on a bungee necklace? This would serve in place of clips and such...

I think that's what Cave Diver is referring to...

I agree with the long hose principle, and will probably go that way in the future. As most of my diving is in warm waters with people who are used to the PADI configuration, I thought I would make the most of the package prices and get one in that set up.

If all goes to plan and I end up as the UK/wreck diver I aim to be then you can be certain I'll be switching to a long hose.

I have to confess to being a little self conscious about turning up to new dive centres with a long hose when I still believe I have a awful lot to learn.

Monkseal - I may consider switching it over, as it seems more natural. I nearly bought the vytec transmitter but thought I should get the idea of checking my guages more engrained before going for all the creature comforts.

As long as you have the tools to remove the plug and tighten the LP hose *slightly*, you're all set. A very small amount of silicone grease on the o-ring would be nice, but it will live without if you don't have any.

Do NOT overtighten the LP hose into the first stage. Finger tight, then just a little nudge with a wrench.

MD

I have the same general question, only concerning the HP hose connecting the SPG to the first stage. Is "just a little nudge with a wrench" appropriate on this hose also?

Not the hose. It's pretty easy like all have said. But the GF is another story. The sooner you realize you are going to have to come up with another kit the better. After all, she's not just your GF. she's your BUDDY.

Conor, what they're trying to tell you is you should consider going DIR.
