Hi,

I'm currently setting up a travel rig and am still deciding on either the Atomic T1/T2 or the Scubapro MK25T/S600T 1st and 2nd stages. I like the first stage on the Scubapro as it seems to be a little more compact.

Keep in mind that this outfit will nearly always be used with an Aluminium 80cuft tank and the wing I'm using is a DSS Torus 17 (which has the inflator right in the middle, which I've heard can interfere with some 1st stage designs like the Atomic T1). (Please see my profile on the other gear for this rig).

Cost wise, they are both the same price, so that's not a consideration anyway.

Regardless of which 1st and 2nd stage I get, I will be using an Atomic SS1 integrated inflator/backup (yes I know not DIR etc (considering the rest of my rigs), but for a travel rig, it suits me best).

Thanks.

I use a Mk 17 on my travel rig. Very compact and very streamlined when used with an integrated octo/inflator and a long hose plus the Mk 17 is lighter than the Mk 25 although not as light as the Mk 25T. With an SS1 however the potential hose routing is slightly cleaner with a Mk 17 than with a Mk 25 or T1 style first stage..

I agree it is not very GUE, but given that it is close to "optimum" for a traveling diver doing recreational open water dives within the NDLs, you could argue it is DIR - as long as you recognize the difference between in philosophy and politics between GUE and DIR.

You probably can find more people to service the SP traveling.
