I just recently got a used BC with an atomic SS1 on it. I have always wanted to try one out, so I got the adapters to set up my primary BC with it. To make a long story short, I hooked it up and put the air to it, and all worked fine except when I breathed off of it, it made a fairly loud humming/fluttering/vibrating sound on inhaling. I wanted to know if others know much about this and if its something that is being caused by not having the regulator underwater and testing dry? I won't be able to dive till next weekend, so if its something definitly wrong I will take it in for servicing. I had planned on waiting for servicing until I did my other regulators.
Thanks for all your input and insight,
Walt

It is probably because it was out of the water. Second stages can make some strange noises when there is no water to dampen the vibrations of the diaphragm.

yep, more than likely just the diaphragm resonating because its out of the water.

Ya, it seems to virtually dissapear when submerged. I just checked it in a bowl of water. I appreciate the replies.
Thanks, Walt

Must have been a pretty large bowl.:D

Ya, good sized bowl. Filled it with water and mouth wash to help in sanitizing the reg. Was alot of fun with mouthwash bubbling all over me, but ya got to do what ya got to do.
Cheers all
