Hello all;

I am considering the Oceanic Atom 2 as my next computer however I am very suprised
of the bad experiences with the Atom that are posted in the forum. For you
guys that use the Atom, are you satisfied ?

Don't have the Atom 2.0, have its "big brother" the VT3, which I like a lot.

Remember that people are always much more likely to say something when they're having a problem with it than when they're happy with it.

Keep in mind I'm going through Open Water, so I'm very new to diving...

I absolutely love my Atom 2. We did 3 of our Open Water dives this weekend in Catalina and it was great. Never lost signal from the transmitter once, and I could read the display perfectly underwater. I just used the software to download the data for my dives, and am pretty impressed with the ease of use and how intuitive the software is.

On top of that the service from Oceanic is fantastic... Because of this experience (http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=185880) I can say they have earned a customer for life...

Happy diving!

I love my Atom 2.0. Unfortunately, I scratched it up while lugging a gazillion tanks one day :( I guess it gives it character though :p

It's easy to use. Novice through very experienced recreational divers should have no problem using whatever features they use and ignoring the ones they don't.

I can't speak for the Atom, but I do know that ever computer manufacturer has had problems with every model. Our retail shop sells the Uwatec computers, and we see problems with those. For the number that we have sold the problems are a very small percentage, and I still love my Uwatec Smart Pro, and have not desire to change right now. If you are one of the people that gets a defective unit, you will probably not have the same perspective. Make a list of the features that are important to you, and research all the options. Buy your computer from an authorized dealer so that you will have support and a warranty if there are any issues.

I have logged 70 dives with a Pro plus 2 and is a rock or a "brick" as some people call it. I am glad to see that you guys like the Atom 2. Could you tell me if it has an ascent rate indicator?

It has an ascent rate indicator. Visual tick marks and beeps/flashes if its too fast. You can set the rate.

I love my Atom 1.0 but the only complaint is the older I get, the smaller the numbers get even under water. ;)

And yes Oceanic support has been wonderful. Have had the computer for 3 years now.

I had the older first production Atom 1, didn't like it, and sold it quickly. However, I now have the Atom 2, and absolutely love it! I have always had extremely good service out of my larger Oceanic computers over many years of diving, but I can highly recommend the compact and feature-packed Atom 2.
