Atlantis Azores Captain’s Log – Dec 18-25, 2015
Bohol itinerary
Our guests boarded the Azores this week on Friday for a special Christmas charter and were led by group leader Jeff from Dream Weaver Travel. Joining him were Michael, Ed and Ann, Mark and Cheryl, Pippa from Cambridge in the UK, and Aleksei and Natalia from Russia.
We started our trip with an overnight cruise to Moalboal, located in Southwest Cebu. We spent the next two days exploring the magical underwater world of this area, including the world famous dive site with thousands of sardines directly off the beach or Panagsama!
We began day three with two dives at Pescador Island and then journeyed south to Oslob for some outstanding snorkeling with the whale sharks. Mike, one of our guests who has been on dive trips all over the world in search of whale shark encounters, spotted four different ones at Oslob and rated this tops!! We spent the rest of the day diving around the pristine walls at nearby Sumilon Island. Tonight we joined together with Mark and Cheryl as they celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary with delicious cake and plenty of celebratory wine.
Early Tuesday morning we headed over to Balicasag Island in Bohol for four enjoyable dives. Continuing our journey, that evening we crossed over to our calm mooring at Panglao Island for the night dive.
Wednesday morning we complete two critter (aka muck) dives where our DM’s found a quite colorful flamboyant cuttlefish and two unique warty frogfish. Our guides then escorted the guests to shore for a much anticipated land tour of Bohol. Lunch was enjoyed on a river cruise in Bohol followed with a visit to the Butterfly Park. Once everyone returned to the boat, Chef Ariel served a traditional Filipino BBQ for everyone to eat and relax outside on the top sun deck as the sun set over the Philippine Sea.
Early Thursday morning we splashed in to finish our underwater exploration with two final dives within the marine sanctuary at Apo Island before setting course and leisurely cruising back two hours to the resort at Dumaguete. Christmas Eve was celebrated ashore at the resort restaurant.
Christmas morning arrived all too soon soon with some guests up early to catch flights home and others to transition to the resort to spend a few more days with us there.
Thank you for joining us this week and Merry Christmas everyone!
We hope to see you again!
