I have 2 AL 80's and a 13Cu ft pony I need Hydro tested. They are basically 'new/lightly used' but out of hydro by 5-6 years. I don't really want to drop $60+ per tank for the LDS to do this. Anyone know of an actual test facility I can use for a Hydro? The place local to me, as in a couple miles from home, said $40 for a hydro. Seems very high. I thought most hydro testers were $15-20 per cylinder.

Also if anyone in ATL, especially NW ATL, is certified to do VIP and can do 3 cylinders for less than $40, please let me know.

Thanks,

Dan

$20-$25 is standard for bottles, see if there's a Pye Barker around since they will put a vip sticker on there. There is a place in Greensboro NC that does hydro but no vip or fill for $13/cylinder which is the cheapest I have seen

Thanks Guys. I'll see what I can find.

Am I wrong in thinking ~$65+ for hydro, vip and fill on an AL80 is high from an LDS? Or is that a normal number?

In my area a hydro is $25, a vip is $15-$20, and a fill is $10. So IMHO a bit high. They might be charging more if they are doing a complete valve rebuild including replacing the burst disk.

nothing short of highway robbery especially if the shop is doing the hydro themselves. A VIP is required as part of the hydro inspection so no need to re-vip the tank, and a fill should be included as part of the vip
