AT&T Cell Phones on Roatan

I know this has been covered and there are local options available, but I wonder if anyone has some recent experience with their own cell phones. I have AT&T and according to them I will have coverage (at least voice and there is wifi at CCV where I will stay, so I presume Skype and Fuze will work there). I don't anticipate needing to use the phone much, if at all, and so I'm not really interested in the local option. I'd prefer just to have my own phone and use it for emergencies (or expense it if work insists on encroaching). Has anyone gone recently with an AT&T phone? Any guidance is appreciated.

Internet is available at CCV, so Skype or any other VOIP app is fine. There is GSM avail but remember to turn international data roaming off. You will be able to receive calls from home at a very high cost. Better to use Whatsapp or Skype unless money doesn't matter to you. When will you be there?

Thanks. Any "voluntary" use will be done as you suggest. I am mostly concerned about emergencies and other "involuntary" uses that may be initiated by my job. Sounds like this is manageable -- traveled like this a lot, but was in Burma/Myanmar a couple of years ago and US cell phones didn't work at all (though I had a Thai phone that did). Making sure it's not like that. We will be there 12-19 March. Very much looking forward to it.

I just returned from Roatan yesterday and had my AT&T IPhone with me running both on WiFi and the local network all week. I had 3G coverage pretty much everywhere, so there were no problems accessing the internet when the island power went out and the resort router wasn't on. I purchased the AT&T Silver Passport which gave me 300 MB of data to use, and I ended up using about 200 MB total while I was there.
