OceanNEnvironment Australia is pleased to announce the collaboration with Department of Tourism (DOT) and Philippine Commission on Sports Scuba Diving (PCSSD) to present ; 'Celebrate the Sea Marine Imagery Festival Philippines 2007'.
Supported by statistic Celebrate the Sea Marine Imagery Festival is the biggest imaging event of the sea staged in the Asia Pacific. Since 2002 the annual festival held in Singapore and Malaysia have attracted entries from over 38 countries. The festival is schedule for 21 to 23 September in Manila and international and local photographers will compete in a shoot out competition at five resorts on 16 - 20 September.

Held in association with the World Festival of Underwater Pictures, Antibes – also known as the 'Cannes of Underwater Films festival', the presenters proposed to bring Celebrate the Sea to Manila in 2007 with intend to make the city the permanent home for the festival for three years. This will position Manila as the capital of underwater imagery in the Asia Pacific.

Now in its sixth year, Celebrate the Sea Festival promote the beauty of our ocean to not only entertain and inspire, but more importantly to motivate people to take action to preserve our natural environment. The 'Oscars' of underwater imagery is the highlight of Celebrate the Sea – the winners of the CTS International Underwater Imagery Competition and the Philippines Shoot Out competition will be revealed during a gala award ceremony on 22 September. Along with medals, cash and holiday prizes, the most coveted title for 2007 is the ' President Grand Award of Highest Achievement 2007' (US$2000 cash prize).

Principal Highlights

International Underwater Imagery Competitions

The centrepiece of the Celebrate the Sea Festival has always been its international imagery competitions and with $30 000 of prizes up for grabs it is the most prestigious underwater imaging competition in Asia Pacific. Open to anyone in the world, the macro, wide angle and black and white photographs, digital images, short video and feature documentaries films, and books all add a truly international flair to this festival. For 2006, the 4500 entries came from 38 countries.



Philippines Shoot Out competition - more information

This will be held from 16 to 20 September – competitors are invited to compete at any of the supporting resorts / operators. Competitors will submit their entries for judging on Friday 21 September and results will announce during the award ceremony along with the results of the international competition.



International Underwater Film Festival

12 award winning documentary features from the World Underwater Pictures Festival Antibes will be specially brought for screening through the 3-day weekend festival. Selected entries from the films in competition will also be shown.



Seminars and Workshops

Celebrate the Sea is also comprise of a seminars component. Past presenters include international underwater luminaries Dr Sylvia Earle, Stan Waterman, David Doubilet, Dr Phil Nyutten, Neville Coleman, Ron & Valerie Taylor, Emory Kristoff and also principal scientists like Dr Mark Erhmann, Dr Carden Wallace etc David Doubilet from National Geographic has confirmed for Philippines and the organiser anticipate to bring to Philippines a panel of some of the most celebrated underwater image makers and marine scientists. The conference runs concurrently with the film festival - local school and university students will be invited to attend this conference at no charge.



Photographic Galleries:

The finalists for the underwater photography and children painting competition will be prominently display during three day event.

Guys, this is a great competition and the fact they are bringing it to Manila is big news!!

Definitely take advantage of it and join in some seminars etc

Should be good publicity for the PI's and the great diving there.
 
Update on the contest. In our latest meeting with Organizer Michael Aw, we agreed to expand the shoot out period from Sept 1 to 20. This means photographers can stay at any participating resort during this period and submit photos they took during their stay. please do not be turned off by the dive packages you see on the website, these are for our guests from abroad who want to join the contest.

Contestants still have to pay the entry fee and the admission ticket to the festival proper at sofitel philippine plaza .

Actually i thought I was being asked to speak about ways to dispose of your precious one of kind subjects so fellow photographers can't get the same pic... :eyebrow:
