I saw an official document (in Bahasa) about this this morning and it was very clear that Raja Ampat is not excluded from the measures. Actually the government was asking airline companies not to allow foreigners board their airplanes towards Sorong.

I was also sent a 2 pager in bahasa, couldn't read it but my liveaboard provider told me it was an official decree saying no foreigners allowed in Sorong until further notice. It also included a 2 week period until April 2 for shutting down schools etc

yeah but right now even in Taiwan who can go diving with me next week for say a 50 dive adventure?
also it's not so cheap in Taiwan with a dive shop and most cannot provide the 3 - 4 dives a day trip I want. Most Taiwan divers I know also cannot do long dives as their are not very good on air.

Yea, a 50 dive adventure maybe not so dooable.. 6 dives over a weekend is about all we normally manage, mid week it is tough to find dive buddies unless it is a holiday.

I'd disagree about the cheap, HSR ticket (USD100) costs more than the rest of the weekend dive activities including taxi, ferry, tanks, scooter rental & dorm..

Well you see I normally work weekends and have Tuesday to Friday off. So diving in Taiwan not really feasable as even as you said, no-one here can provide a proper dive vacation. Don't know where you buy your HSR ticket but do not assume everyone travels from Taipei OK. Why would I take the HSR when I can drive.

6 dives over a weekend is not what I want on a dive vacation. 2 days is not a vacation.
I want to do two week dive vacation trips not 2 days. Taiwan has very limited diving. I also don't live in a dorm thanks all the same. I stay in a room by myself I do not share rooms unless it is with my wife.

Yay. Also a week diving means about 30 dives for me if I get lazy and skip dawn as night dives. What's the average cost per dive in Taiwan?

Green Island + Kenting + Orchid Island + Xiao Liu Qiu should be able to provide you 10 days of diving.
The Flying Fish Festival on Orchid Island should knock off couple of days in your two wks allowance.

I am more than happy to do that if Free China would let me in from HK.

I live up in the mountains in a remote area. Would be happy to have you come stay at my place so I can show you around some parts of Taiwan even locals rarely get to see. Hsinhai needs to learn there is more to Taiwan than Taipei.
