Just a quick question. I always see Bonaire, Cozumel, and Bahamas mentioned. Is Aruba bad for scuba diving?

I liked it! Some good wrecks there. Plus, the night-life rocks too!

Which dive place did you use or do people suggest

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Sunspree. Pelican has a pier there right out on the beach, so it was super convenient. Good folks too! Clean operation.

Unfortunately, the Holiday Inn pool was frequently full of kids, but it was a cheap stay, so I didn't mind - I wasn't there for the pool.

Also, you gotta do the Kukoo Kunuku Paranda Bus. Its a hell of a lot of fun! :D

I believe we judge all things in relation to our expectations. If things are better than we thought they would be, we have a favorable impression, and vice-versa.

I did all three on one extensive trip.

From what I was told in advance, I expected Aruba to be pretty bad. It was better than I expected it to be, so I came away with a favorable impression. Objectively, the diving is pretty average at best, but it has the best beaches by far. (Lots of people praise Pelican Sports, but my one day with them was very bad, and I spent the rest of the time with Clive Paula.)

From what I was told in advance, I expected Bonaire to be spectacular. Frankly, I was disappointed. It was not as good as I expected, and some of the staff members where I stayed (Captain Don's) were among the worst professionals I have ever seen in the dive industry. Objectively, the island has excellent diving, but I walked away disappointed.

From what I was told in advance..wait, I didn't know squat about Curaçao in advance; we added it to the trip because of problems with plane connections. With nothing to go by, I was thrilled with the quality I saw there. I regretted very much not scheduling more time on the island than the few days I was there.

Aruba is great for diving, but just not as good as some of the other places. But nothing wrong with it.

It's actually one of my favorite islands. The infrastructure is good, the resturants are GREAT, the hotels and beaches are great. Not much bad to say about it.

I'd go back in a heartbeat, but if you want to dive your butt off 5 times a day, I'd do a liveaboard or Bonaire as there are more and better dive site options.

BTW... I've been to the Holiday Inn there also. that pool is crowded, but it's the cheapest "brand name" place hotel on the island and that's to be expected.

Was just there a month or so ago. Stayed on Eagle Beach. Dove with Pelican on a twin engine plane and reef one day and then did a night dive. The night dive was the best IMO.

Check out the hidden pool on the other side of the island and eat at iguana joe's downtown! Don't spend money on a taxi, use the bus system.

I would go back in a heartbeat.

Porsche-There is a travel section and you will find all kinds of great information on places to go. Have you found that yet? There's mexico, US, bahamas, Lesser Antilles (aruba, bonaire and curacao)
You will find tons of information and that would be the best place to put these questions too. That way, when other people look for the info they can find it too.

We use Dive Aruba a small 1 man operation with a 6 pack boat by the name of Clive Paula. He allows you to do your diving as you like with no bottom time limits like most of the operators in Aruba. We have dove with several operators but always end back with Clive. The diving is decent the drift diving can be very good some days and the wrecks are okay overall you will get a variety of diving experiences in Aruba. For the price it's not a bad deal. If you look real hard there are sea horse's to be found.
