My wife and I went to Aruba for the first time last month and dove three mornings, 6 dives. We followed numerous threads suggesting Dive Aruba, rated very high both here and on trip advisor. Well, the internet works, and we had a great experience. Dive with Clive and his son was great, well operated, well organized. Would certainly recommend them, and would dive with them again. This is NOT a cattle call, small boat with 6 divers. Very professional group though, they know the reef, the dive sights, and how to dive. We have all of our own equipment so we did not rent any of theirs so we cannot comment on rentals. The Aruba dives were much better than led to believe based on reviews however. The soft corals were doing well, some of the hard coral was bleached out from warm water, but the reefs were in good condition. The wrecks were fantastic, both the Antilla and Jane Sea wreck were above expectations. The light effects on the Antilla reminded me of Cathedrals II in Hawaii. The water was about 78 degrees for the dives, so if you get cold easy take that into account. We dove with 0.5s and were a bit cold on the second dives. We used and Ikelight surround for a panasonic TS3 for photographs for the first time. It didn't leak, but fogged badly and desiccant was not available on the Island. If you want to use a similar setup, bring desiccant packs from home.
Overall, great trip and experiences.

Would you share where you stayed? Did you need a rental car, or did the operator pick you up?
Thanks,
Kate

Hi Kate,
We stayed at the Marriott Renaissance Aruba Beach Resort and Hotel. We stayed on the family side not the casino side. After 2 days we rented a car to see the other beaches, this resort has a beach that they take you to by boat - its on their private island. Nice, but on heavy flights days its very loud because its under the flight path and next to the airport. Not bad, but Palm beach and Eagle beach are better. If you want to buy groceries and make some of your own food, rent a car because the stores are not near the hotels or beaches.

The Scuba operators like Dive Aruba pick you up at your hotel. We walked to the Dive Aruba boat which is conveniently located at the harbor next to the hotel. For us it was less than 5 minute walk. Others were picked up by Clive and brought to the boat.

Glad you enjoyed Aruba. Just a note regarding fogging. I experienced it too. One tip I received after my trip was to open the camera case slightly, then move it close to the air tank valve...turn on the valve a bit then close the case while air continues. No humidity in the tank right? Hot batteries heat the air in the case and as the temp goes down....fog time.

Glad to read some info on diving in Aruba. Im going tomorrow!! Was looking for info on dive operators and "must see wrecks" since that is what Aruba seems to best known for. Dove in Bonaire over Xmas 2012, great shore dives, so I'm wondering if the shore diving in Aruba is equal?? I have my own gear, cept tanks of course, any sites or beaches with good shore diving??? Also, rental cars, besides whats on-line, good prices locally?? Thanks for ANY input!!
