Video/Film is a magnificent medium to express one's self. I once explained the transition to video from photography to a fellow shutterbug like imagine yourself constantly framing. It's like shooting with your finger pressing the shutter down constantly. All the basics of composition, framing, exposure, etc. They are all still there, and you have just as much control as you do with still photographs. But your mistakes are there for all to see.

I've always thought of video as entertainment and photography as art.

A friend of mine from Sweden sent me a link to his website. Press the play button on the 1st video.

Heliox Film Kft. - Búvárfilm

I might have to rethink my opinion.
Loved it. :D

Wow. Pretty damn good. That must've taken a serious amount of drugs to put together.

Some fantastic shots. I especially like the fish exploding out of the coral head.

Wow - you can't help but being inspired and motivated to create after watching something like that. Thanks for sharing that!

The personality, moods, interests, aspirations and ideas of the artist are most definately apparent in video. I find that the more I shoot and produce the more I want my work to communicate beyond just pictures of critters and seascapes.

I think I posted this one here before, but this is another example of how artistic talent adds more to a production. -> La Paz Macro by Evan Sherman

btw - Art vs. Entertainment? Who says it has to be one or the other????

That was a great video Bob. Fantastic editing and a nice display of creativity. Does he have other videos on the net ?

It's much easier to show your creativity in a video than in a photo. Editing style, soundtracks, voiceovers, etc.. That's probably the main reason I do video instead of photography.

You are right, art vs. entertainment, who cares ? I just made the observation because people always talk about photo art, but the word is rarely used for video.

I am a vacation diver, my videos follow that theme. Some of us like to edit to that theme, some an educational theme, some a documentary theme. This was one of the few UW videos I've seen that had what I would call an artistic theme.

So right you are on that one!

I don't know if he does. I think there is one more video on the Dive Travel with Joe Liburdi site (Evan's step dad - I think many know the Liburdi name..) Evan has done a lot of video work for PADI - and he's actually on the cover of the curent PADI nitrox book.
