I would like to get some info on artificial dive sites across the world. I know that there are old quaries and mines etc. but does anyone know about a proper designed artificial site?

We tend to use old quarries and gravel pits over here. There are a couple of places that come to mind though. The SETT, The submarine escape training tank. This is a 30m deep cylidrical tank used for military training although they do let rec divers in. I believe there are a couple of sites for comercial diver training too. How about aquariums. There are a few that let divers in.

Depends on what you mean by artificial. Quarries arent really artificial if you ask me.

People who dont dive, dont know what it feels like to dive. To explore a territory that we physically should not be able to explore.

but it was for it's purpose.

I'm still working to get up & dive Valhalla!

Larry - artificial I mean digging a hole, design caves in the sides, sinking boats, planes whatever. Also building reefs etc. But inland way inland, and then produce saltwater to simulate sea conditions. Almost a diving Disney if you like. Would you dive such site if it gives you enough to look at and is 3 - 80m deep?

There is a place in Utah that has made an artificial saltwater dive site. Being Utah, they may be utilizing the salt in the ground water, I don't know. But the pictures I've seen show it to be covered and protected from the weather somewhat. There are tropical saltwater fish in it, even some nurse sharks, but the water is green instead of blue.

Wish I could think if the name....:(

Raxa - we are between 800 and 1600 clicks from the real thing. Makes it difficult to dive regularly. The most divers in SA are locked upland, so we need a place to keep our heads under water!
