are there such a thing as scuba clubs?
if so are there any in northern new jersey?

Sure. Many dive shops sponsor them. Some are formed by folks from a common geography or with a common interest.

For example, there are the Great Lakes Wrecking Crew which is a group of Great Lakes area divers here on Scuba Board who get together every so often. There is also one organized by one of our local dive centers called the Indy Diving Society. They get together one day a month throughout the diving season and go to one of the several local quarries/lakes we have in the eastern midwest.

I'd suggest you start with the local geography forum here on SB closest to you. That looks like it would probably be the Mid-Atlantic Bottom Feeders. Here is a link:

Introduce yourself and then go from there. In the month or so here on SB I've already "met" 10-20 divers in my general area that I hope to meet in the coming months/years to dive together.

Good luck.

And complete your Profile with Location so others nearby can recognize you as a local. :)

Yes, Almost every dive shop will have a "club" but they typically only promote charters and other things offered by the shop. Most of the members know this but still you get to meet other divers.

There are other kinds of clubs too. Some are just e-mai lists that let people know where to meet for the weekly regular dive. Others are more formal.

There is a forum for pepole in your area here on scubaboard. Ask about local clubs there
