Oceana Diver

That’s a really good question. My campaign director Dave Allison and I have participated in a half dozen consumer and industry dive shows in the last year discussing this very issue with the dive community. We agree that divers can and should be active in ocean conservation; after all, the ocean is our playground. I know other members and supporters of organizations like REEF, CORAL and EarthEcho are divers who are committed to ocean conservation just as Oceana is.
Oceana is a five year old international ocean conservation organization that deals with conserving, protecting and restoring the health of the oceans and its inhabitants. Ocean conservation is all we do and we’re happy to be working to be part of the answer to your question. One of our goals is to identify and protect benthic habitat, especially deep-sea coral and sponge habitat, from destructive commercial trawling. I invite you to check out what we’re doing on that issue and in our pollution and bycatch campaigns from our “dive site,” www.oceana.org/dive. If you have suggestions or comments, feel free to let me know either through this thread, on our blog http://community.oceana.org/ or stop by our booth (1069) at DEMA.
